Brian Fernando was born in California and trained in Bay Area restaurants. At 1601, he cooks contemporary Sri Lankan food, using local California produce.

The tasting menu changes with the season and includes egg hoppers with traditional sambols, curries, seafood, and vegetables.

1601 Bar & Kitchen is independently owned and run by Brian and Yuliya.

How does the tasting menu work?

Dinner is a set tasting menu at $150 per person, served as a progression of small dishes. We do not offer an à la carte menu. The sample menu above gives you a sense of the evening; dishes may change.

Do I need to prepay?

You can reserve through Resy and pay for your meal at the restaurant, or choose a prepaid reservation through Tock. Drinks are additional. Review applicable charges and cancellation terms on your chosen booking platform before confirming.

Can you accommodate dietary needs?

Our menu includes seafood, poultry, and meat. Because our kitchen is small, substitutions are limited. Please email us before reserving to confirm whether we can accommodate your needs. Any agreed special menu requests must be booked through Tock’s prepaid reservations.

How long should I allow?

A tasting-menu dinner for two typically takes around 90 minutes.

Is the food spicy?

The menu includes both mild and spicy dishes. If you have a particular concern, contact us before booking.

What if my plans change?

Cancellation and modification terms depend on your reservation. Check the policy displayed by Resy or Tock before booking, and use your confirmation to manage an existing reservation.
